Thinking outside the square. A project in Glen Huntly

At Lump we have a huge catalogue of screens to choose from. But what we are really great at is thinking outside the square and using our creativity to customise and design our pieces so that they are perfectly tailored to your project.

And talking of “thinking outside the square”, this week on the lump blog we are featuring a project in Glen Huntly that was designed by Adam Tugendhaft of Tugendhaft Architects, constructed by Rodney Efron from Omnicon Constructions and completed with a little bit of Lump love.

In short, the Glen Huntly project is a medical suite and Adam required a façade treatment to complete the entrance. The façade is north facing and Chris from Lump proposed to compete the exterior with a custom louvered pattern featuring a random 3D effect. For this he would use our very clever Push Pull Screening system in the Square Space design, with a powder-coated finish to match the existing window mullions.

Chris designed all of the louvers or 3D elements of the screens to open forward facing, protecting the building from the harsh north sun and setting sun in the west providing both shelter and privacy.

Due to the unusual sizing of the windows, every panel used in the façade is an individually designed pattern and size; this is not something that was simply replicated from a cookie cutter design. And this is what gives the finished façade its naturally random appearance. Aesthetically it is one thing to clad the exterior façade of a building, but the functionality of the project is absolutely key to its success. At Lump we have the aesthetics covered, the Square Space design worked perfectly with the Push Pull Screening system to provide the functionality of the louvers. But above all else we manage to maintain those aesthetics while providing the most important functional components such as structural integrity and stability, secure fixings, working hinges to provide access to the windows for cleaning and all elements that need careful consideration during not only installation but ongoing maintenance work like access, power lines and pedestrians.

Tim Turner took the gorgeous images you see here and as you scroll through you can see we managed to sneak a few of our Lump 3D Feature panels in the Sahara design into the interior scheme as well. We love the transformation our Square Space screen design made into the Push Pull screening system for the Glen Huntly project. With Christmas fast approaching we will be closing off orders soon so I encourage you to get in touch with us now so that we can start thinking outside the square for you.
