The Dominion Building

A couple of weeks ago I posted a short piece detailing the beautiful Birdcage Pendant Light that now features in the foyer of the Dominion Building on Little Lonsdale St in Melbourne.

The Pendant was designed in collaboration with Emily Unger and Matt Spring from Vantage Property Investments and fabricated by of course, yours truly.

Before all the fun began with the Bird Cage Pendant Light, we had been working with Michael Molinaro from Profile Building Services and Matt Spring on level one of the same building.

Michael completed the mission of hanging the Bird Cage Pendant Light with absolute precision and Matt has provided a little info below to fill in the gaps and complete the story about the project on Level One.

“In order to resolve a visual aspect problem with a neighboring car park and to better improve the usability of an outdoor balcony for tenants at 533 Little Lonsdale St, myself and the team from Vantage Property Investments and Michael Molinaro from Profile Building Services devised a design to install fixed metal screens featuring Lumps Bamboo design. This enabled the car park to be hidden whilst also providing a low maintenance and aesthetically appealing solution to a visual eyesore.”

Matt continued by saying “Both Michael and I were delighted with the result as it achieved a solution to the problem both in terms of appearance and ongoing maintenance over and above live planting in an area suffering from substantial sunlight.”

The screens were custom sized to fit the specified area and feature a design inspired by the experience of walking through a bamboo forest.  Finished in Lumps Faux Rust Finish the screens give the appearance and texture of real rust with out the possibility of leaching rust stains onto the decking or level below.

All of us at Lump have thoroughly enjoyed working on both projects inside the Dominion Building and we send out a big thank you with this post to everyone involved.
