Lump Work In Progress – Polaris 3083
So this week the Lump crew has been getting all hot under the collar about a new project that has been in progress at Lump for some time now. Literally, hot and sweaty because installation started this week when temperatures were reaching thirty-eight degrees. And no doubt, out in the blazing sun and on an open building site, the temperature was probably even a little higher.
Earlier last year Lump was commissioned to begin a project for a major development in Bundoora called Polaris 3083. A new major shopping and residential destination close to La Trobe University. Chris from Lump sat down with the leading developer Deal Corp and architects Clarke Hopkins Clarke and together formulated two urban art projects that fell inside the proposed budget. Not long after the meeting technical drawings were set out, structural engineers gave approval and the Lumpians set to work constructing the first of the two projects in the Lump studio.
The first of the two projects is a sculptural installation located on the façade outside of the complex and is shaped like a huge ship stern. The ship stern like structure is cladded in our Lump Ink Blot design and finished using our Lump Faux Rust Effect. This week we have four Lumpians on deck and installation of project 1 is expected to continue for the next two weeks. And although the Lump crew will have the long awaited relief of the cool change, no doubt we will still all get a little hot under the collar when we take a look at the work in progress of project 2.
