Commissioned by Pace Development Group for 160 Whitehorse Rd Blackburn.

The Seedling Sculptures capture the first moments of a plant’s journey as it unfurls its first leaves, reaches towards the sunlight and begins the process of photosynthesis.

Magnified to a monumental scale, the sculptures playfully celebrate the quiet strength and potential found in nature’s smallest forms. Their organic shapes emerge from the earth and stretch skyward, creating a sense of movement, optimism and renewal.

Crafted from weathering steel, the sculptures will continue to mature over time. As the steel develops its rich natural patina, the artwork will evolve with the landscape, strengthening its connection to place.

Nestled within the unfolding leaves, a polished stainless steel sphere invites visitors to discover a tiny reflection of themselves, offering a playful moment of perspective. By making adults feel small again and children feel part of something larger, the sculpture encourages a sense of curiosity, wonder and connection with the natural world.

By transforming one of nature’s smallest forms into a monumental sculpture, the Seedlings celebrate the giant potential in even the tiniest beginnings and invites us to pause, reconnect with nature and rediscover our childlike curiosity and wonder.

The Botanical Pod is part of a larger series exploring the Flindersia Australis seed pods.

An original series featuring five sculptures representing the natural progression and evolution of the plant’s initial juvenile seed pod to the full open seed flower.

The form and textured surfaces forge a strong connection between all sculptures with the Corten steel reflecting on the hardy and unwavering character of this tough Australian native species.
