Canoe
Artist – Simone Thomson
Lump Studio is proud to have fabricated a striking new public artwork for artist Simone Thomson, commissioned through Sarah Weston Art Consulting.
Designed by First Nations artist Simone Thomson, the sculpture takes the form of a traditional canoe, symbolising migration, cultural journeys, and deep connections to place. Crafted in Corten steel with a natural rusted finish and stainless steel elements, the work is anchored on natural rock and can be seen at the entrance to Station Pier.
This sculpture is part of the Migration Public Art Trail, an initiative of the Port Melbourne Business Association, funded by a State Government grant. The project has been supported and approved by the Victorian Government’s Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action and the City of Port Phillip.
